PRESS
EXCLAIM.CA Oceans Apart is the latest offering from Ghanaian-Canadian singer/songwriter Kae Sun, critically acclaimed for his 2013 Afriyie album. But to view these four songs as a follow-up to that album would be a disservice to its intentions; this eponymous EP is merely one component of Oceans Apart, the multimedia exhibition and short film created alongside Emeka Alams and Simon Rittmeier, which is currently touring across Germany. 7/10

ABOUT ALBUM:
Oceans Apart is the upcoming EP by Kae Sun with a short film directed by Emeka Alams and Simon Rittmeier. The album and film were made on location in Germany, New York, Toronto and the Ivory Coast. This record and film is inspired by Kwaku's (Kae Sun) recent experiences living and travelling through Germany.

BIOGRAPHY:
Kae Sun is the musical project of Kwaku Darko-Mensah Jnr, a Ghanaian-Canadian singer- songwriter and artist, with influences from afrobeat, folk, electronic and hip hop. Following his 2009 debut album “Lion on a Leash”, Kae Sun released an EP “Outside the Barcode” from which the song “Firefly Dance” was named Top Tune of the Day by KCRW in Los Angeles.

Kae Sun’s 2nd full-length album “Afriyie” (2013), funded by FACTOR, received acclaim from the likes of MTV Iggy, who said of the record, “With Afriyie, Kae Sun has [emerged] as one of the most promising singer-songwriters in the international scene.” The album has achieved traction worldwide particularly in Asia, charting in S. Korea, Singapore and Taiwan and reaching over 2 million views on Youtube.

Touring frequently throughout North America, highlights include Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, support for the Toronto stop of Janelle Monae’s Electric Lady Tour, and Yale University’s inaugural African arts and culture festival, AFRICA SALON, alongside FELA aKUsTIc (fronted by Sahr Ngaujah) and Angelique Kidjo.
